Retail Print Analysis - Fall/Winter 2021-22 (Livetrend)

Published
Jan 4, 2022

Livetrend analyzed the print and pattern trends of FW21 collections. This season, classic motifs remain at the top of assortments. Staples such as flowers, checks and stripes are the leading trends of current collections. Familiar classics are reassuring consumers and adding a more timeless feel to products. For FW21,   animal prints are one of the more frequented graphics across collections. The animal look adds a sense of fierceness and dressiness and has proven to be a solid statement over previous decades.

Turning to more seasonal prints, geometrics with kinetic and seventies-inspirations, as driven by the latest Prada and Versace shows, are favored especially within the Italian market. At the same time, the French market prefers smaller motifs and focuses on branding in form of monogram prints. Deciphering the flower segment, ditsy florals are still among the most present motifs, while the more fashionable products opt for tapestry style influences. Scales are seemingly increasing moving towards the next drops.

This season, the trend for ethnic and folk designs has found its interpretation within paisley prints. Indigenous motifs are represented in smaller quantities and often used in embroidered statement pieces, rather than in all-over prints. Consumers seek to connect with heritage and craft and celebrate a more shared understanding of humanity and culture now. On such a free-spirited note, patchwork motifs are interpreted within the premium market as well. However, such iconic boho looks are mainly quilted rather than printed. Lastly, he trend for tie&dye keeps its momentum. For a more wintery feel, the print is translated into blurred, faded or marbled patterns and autumnal-infused tints.
