Following the retirement of Joseph R. Gromek, the American footwear manufacturer announced the appointment of apparel and footwear industry vet David W. McCreight to its board of directors on Wednesday.

Having most recently served as president of URBN, Inc. and CEO of the conglomerate’s Anthropologie Group, a role he left in April 2018, McCreight has over three decades of experience in the industry behind him. Prior to joining URBN, the University of Virginia graduate served as president at Under Armour and Lands’ End.

McCreight also serves on the board of used-car retailer CarMax, Inc.

“David has worked for some of the biggest names in apparel and retail, and we are thrilled to add him to our Board of Directors,” said Wolverine Worldwide Chairman, President and CEO Blake Krueger in a release. “His expertise in branding and merchandising, as well as his acumen in global direct-to-consumer and international business growth, will play a critical role in helping us drive our Global Growth Agenda. His strong leadership and business experience will bring incredible value to our board.”

“I am very pleased to be joining the Board of Directors of Wolverine Worldwide,” added McCreight. “Wolverine is a leader and innovator in the global footwear and apparel industry, and I look forward to working with my fellow board members to build on the Company’s current successes while advancing future growth initiatives.”

With a portfolio that includes the Merrell, Sperry, Hush Puppies and Wolverine brands, and global footwear licenses for Cat and Harley-Davidson, Wolverine Worldwide’s products are sold in some 200 countries around the globe.

The company, which reported $2.2 billion in revenues in fiscal 2018, recently embarked on a joint venture with Chinese sportswear retailer Xtep International to develop, market and distribute Merrell and Saucony products in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
