Vintage, foam top 2022 global trends in resale sneakers and fashion: Goat

Published
Nov 20, 2022

Nike Dunks outsold Air Jordan 1s this year, driving almost 50% of Nike sales on sneaker marketplace Goat, according to the company’s first annual alias Seller Report, offering a snapshot of 2022 global trends in resale sneakers and fashion.

2022's global trends in sneakers and fashion: Goat report. - Goat

The top selling sneaker of 2022 is the Nike 'Panda' Dunk Low, followed by the Yeezy Slides ‘Onyx’; the Yeezy Foam Runner ‘Onyx'; the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG 'Patent Bred’; Yeezy Slides 'Pure' 2021 Re-Release; and Air Jordan 11 Retro 'Cool Grey' 2021.

The report also highlighted the rise of New Balance with year-over-year growth over 90%.
Goat noted that for the first time, the U.S. sportswear brand was knocking on the door of the 'Big Four' — Nike, Jordan, Adidas, Yeezy.

Foam was highlighted as the material of the year. While Yeezys led foam sales, Crocs came in second with year-over-year order volume growth of over 188%. More brands also launched their own version of clogs, slip-ons and slides including Nike and Jordan.

Moreover, the report unveiled that vintage apparel was in high demand with nostalgic trends on the rise including utility and cargo, 90’s and Y2K, as well as varsity and letterman jackets. Vintage tee sales grew over 312% year-over year with graphic sports, music and movie tees the most popular among buyers.

"Everyone is always looking at what comes next in sneakers and fashion," said Eddy Lu, co-founder and chief executive officer of Goat Group. "This report highlights some of the most notable trends in 2022 that shifted culture and the entire fashion industry, while also giving insight into what we might see in 2023."

Looking ahead, Goat said to keep an eye out for the launch of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG 'Chicago Lost & Found' on November 19; the Air Jordan 11 Retro 'Cherry' on December 10; and the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low OG SP 'Black Phantom,’ rumored to release in December.
