Verishop launches shoppable social content

Verishop launched on Tuesday a new social shopping app that will ultimately compete with the biggest social media platforms in shoppable social content.

“We started Verishop because we saw that online shopping is not fun. Many e-commerce platforms are search-driven -- just for the customers who know what they want. It’s boring and uninspiring,” explained co-founder and CEO, Imran Khan, a former Snap Inc. executive.

“We wanted to bring browsing and entertainment to online shopping, and make the entire experience engaging and hassle free. Shopping should be fun.”

The iOS app uses artificial intelligence technology to offer a new social media-inspired feed of photos and videos that recommends products based on the content users like.

It features over 600 brands, such as Madewell and Hill City apparel and Oribe hair care products, while showcasing culinary, fashion and interior design influencers.

Next, the company will open the experience to users to add their own photos and videos.

“If you must think of it in physical world terms, our new app is like window shopping at your favorite mall or shopping strip, but made personal. You’re there to spend some time, get inspired and shop with confidence and convenience. It’s that mix of entertainment and commerce that we’re taking digital,” added Khan.

Verishop, which sells a curated selection of women's and men's fashion, home goods, and beauty products, launched an e-commerce site almost a year ago.

Many social-shopping initiatives have launched over the years, but no model is yet perfect.

Instagram first began rolling out its shopping feature in 2017, and launched its 'Checkout with Instagram' feature in March, 2019.

Likewise, earlier this year, Facebook Inc launched 'Shops', a service that will allow businesses to display and sell products on the world's largest social network's platforms.
