Superdrug celebrates National Beauty Banks charity milestone

Published
May 2, 2023

Health & beauty retail giant Superdrug is celebrating a charity beauty milestone. It’s now five years since the first 'National Beauty Banks’ bins were installed in its stores.

To celebrate the occasion, Superdrug and charity Beauty Banks have teamed up with a host of celebrities, influencers and industry heavyweights, including presenter and Radio 6 DJ Lauren Laverne and author/journalist Caitlin Moran, to drive donations and raise awareness of hygiene poverty.

Modern consumers increasingly expect the businesses they patronise to take an active part if doing good for their communities and charity initiatives are a key part of most retail businesses’ activities.

Since 2018, the partnership has seen nearly 100 bins added to stores across the UK, enabling shoppers to donate gifts and hygiene products to be distributed to charities in the local community. Thousands of products have so far been donated, reaching 600 registered charities across the country.

According to Superdrug, Beauty Banks reported an 80% increase in demand for services last year and it is believed that around 15 million people were living in poverty in the UK in 2022 and due to the challenging climate.

Simon Comins, Chief Commercial Officer at the retailer, said: “We’d love to encourage anyone that feels able to, to donate by dropping off products in any one of our Beauty Bank donation points to support their local communities.”
