New York-based Sequential Brands Group, Inc. announced on Monday the appointment of industry veteran Karen Castellano as president of the company’s fashion division. She brings more than 30 years of experience to the position.

In her new role, Castellano will be responsible for overseeing all of the brands in the group’s fashion portfolio, which features labels such as Jessica Simpson, William Rast and Ellen Tracy.

Castellano comes to Sequential from G-III Apparel Group, where she headed women’s denim and sportswear at Tommy Hilfiger, overseeing design, sales, merchandising and marketing. Prior to this, she led the transformation of NYDJ Apparel from a denim label to a complete lifestyle brand as EVP for sales, retail and wholesale planning, and merchandising.

Before moving to NYDJ, Castellano was CEO of TR Designs, Inc., leading all aspects of the Tracy Reese and Plenty by Tracy Reese lines internationally. She also served as vice president for men’s and childrenswear wholesale at Burberry Americas.

Having graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton and begun her career at Bloomingdales, she worked at Liz Claiborne from 1989 to 2007, serving in a number of different roles, including president of Claiborne sportwear and men’s mid-tier brands.

“I’m excited to welcome Karen Castellano to Sequential and have her as part of our executive team,” said Sequential Brands Group CEO Karen Murray in a release. “Karen has a proven track record of building fashion brands, a deep understanding of the licensing business and solid retail and wholesale relationships. She is a true asset and I’m thrilled she’s joining us.”

Castellano will report directly to Murray.
