Rixo in bridal category debut as wedding boom expected post-lockdown

Published
Feb 16, 2021

As brands and consumers start to see light at the end of the lockdown tunnel, one segment that should see frenetic activity is bridal, after a year of cancelled and postponed weddings.

Rixo

And upscale London-based fashion brand Rixo is aiming to ride the wave of pent-up demand with the launch of a new bridal capsule. The label, founded in 2015 by Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey, is known for its vintage look and has just dropped its new 26-piece collection that has a subtle retro edge with inspiration also said to come from style icons such as Kate Moss and Bianca Jagger.

There are simple slips, an Edwardiana dress, 30s-inspired movie star styles, a jumpsuit, and simple cocktail hour looks with feather-trimmed sleeves and hems. It’s a something-for-everyone collection, although the colour choice is limited (traditional white dominates). Accessories are included, but these are largely vintage one-offs.

Despite expectations of a surge in demand for bridal dresses, the company has actually been working on the launch for two years with its plans easily pre-dating the pandemic. It had also been planning to open a bridal boutique on Elizabeth Street, but that’s on hold for the time being. However, it’s offering virtual one-to-one appointments with a bridal specialist to support the online launch.
