Richard James opens bespoke Harrods pop-up, launches RTW collection

Published
Dec 16, 2020

It may have been a tough year for tailoring as social events were cancelled and people worked from home, but that hasn't stopped upscale tailor Richard James focusing on its expansion plans.

Richard James

In July, the company opened a store in London’s Soho for the new Richard James London sportswear sub-brand that seemed to reflect its acknowledgement of the importance of more casual clothing. But now, it has put support behind its luxury formalwear. It clearly sees demand continuing at the upper end of the market and perhaps accelerating next year as vaccines raise the prospect of a return to normality at some point.

It has opened a pop-up in Harrods’ menswear department on the second floor that will run until late February.

The space showcases its Bespoke Savile Row tailoring offer, along with an exclusive RTW capsule collection made from rescued and repurposed materials from British and Italian mills, plus a full made-to-measure service. The RTW collection comprises 25 pieces in wool, cashmere and cotton velvet, ranging from off-duty tailoring to dinner suits.

The move comes at a crucial time for the brand as it has also reopened its London Bespoke and Savile Row stores.

It’s an important milestone for Harrods as well, as it's the first time in more than 170 years that Savile Row bespoke tailoring hasn't been available under its roof.
