Peter Pilotto label takes a break as design duo assess their futures

Published
Feb 28, 2020

The Peter Pilotto label is being paused while its design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos look at the business and conduct a strategic review.

They revealed the news on Instagram saying that “after 12 exhilarating years of collaboration, [they] have decided to take a break and pause their eponymous brand. During the imminent break, Peter and Christopher will reassess all aspects of the future of the brand, its structure, business model and operations.”

It was a surprise announcement, more so as it came after a particularly busy period for the brand. Less than 18 months ago, one of their designs was treated to a global audience of many million when Princess Eugenie wore the label for her wedding. And last September, they decamped from London to Milan Fashion Week to gain more international exposure as they launched a new line of leather goods and unveiled their first ever menswear looks.

They didn’t show at the recent London Fashion Week for AW20/21, although given current economic issues in the UK, that hadn’t raised eyebrows.

It’s unclear whether the future for the two designers will be together or apart, with the Instagram announcement going on to say: “We have loved working together and love what we have created with Peter Pilotto. The brand is a true blend of our passions and creativity, but we need time to pause and rethink before we explore our next steps in this rapidly changing world. We are excited about our next phase, whether separately or jointly.”

However, it looks like the two will still own the rights to their label with the pair saying: “We are grateful to our investors who have confirmed that we will continue to own the Peter Pilotto brand. Thank you to everyone who has supported us! Lots of love, Peter and Christopher.”

The brand’s investors are MH Luxe and Megha Mittal, who bought into the label five years ago, although it’s not know what percentage they acquired.
