New York Fashion Week presents slim schedule for June edition

Published

New York Fashion Week’s June edition is fast approaching, with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) revealing a slim official schedule for the event.

The schedule kicks off on May 31, with shows from New York City-based label Monse at 3 p.m. and Alexander Wang at 8 p.m. The rest of the schedule, including both New York Fashion Week: Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 and NYFW: June - a combination of Resort and Spring-Summer 2020 - then stretches from June 2 through June 6, according to the CFDA’s fashion calendar.

The evening of June 3 will close with the 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards.

The New York Fashion Week: Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 programming will fall between June 3 and June 5. The men’s shows will kick off with New York Men's Day (NYMD) on June 3, where 14 designers will present simultaneously across two time slots throughout the day. NYMD will take place at the event’s new location at 450 West 31st Street, across from Hudson Yards.

Launched by the CFDA in 2015, NYFW: Men's has struggled to establish a strong presence on the international fashion calendar, and this season several brands made headlines for switching from New York to Paris to present their men’s collections. Palomo Spain, which showed its Fall-Winter 2019 collection in New York, will return to Paris to show its latest collection on June 18 - the opening day of Paris' menswear fashion week, joining New York-based label, Bode, which is making its debut in the French capital. Sies Marjan, another New York-based label, has also chosen Paris to show its first men’s-only collection on June 22.

With the new season comes the start of Tom Ford’s reign as chairman of the CFDA. Ford was first confirmed as the organization’s next chairman in March, and was set to start in January of 2020. The CFDA later announced that Ford would begin sooner, on June 1.

Later this year, NYFW’s September schedule is set to shrink from eight days to five under Ford’s leadership.
