MM6 Maison Margiela will present its new collection in Milan

Published
Jan 29, 2019

Maison Margiela is heading to Milan.

For the first time in its 30-year history, the house will present its younger MM6 Maison Margiela collection in the Italian fashion capital.

MM6 Maison Margiela will be presented on Wednesday, February 20 during Milan Fashion Week, a six-day season scheduled from Feb. 19 to Feb. 25, for fall/winter 2019 collections.

“MM6 will take the street again in a two-hour presentation format reflecting the inclusive spirit of the brand: one creative concept will spread through the whole collection and will take over the venue in an immersive experience,” the house said in a release.

The decision to move their presentation “reinforces the brand’s presence in Milan,” the house added. It comes a year after the house opened its first boutique in the north central Milan district of Porta Nuova.

For the past several seasons, MM6 has been presented in multiple different formats in London, from a graffiti splattered art gallery in Covent Garden to an old pub in Mayfair, reinvented as an all-silver tinsel paper folly.

MM6 is designed by an anonymous collective and not the house’s legendary creative director John Galliano. The house was first launched by the reclusive Martin Margiela back in 1989 and is arguably the most famous example of a conceptual fashion brand. Hence, MM6 takes an unconventional approach to feminine fashion, and is noted for its obtuse signifier. Where the main line is instantly recognizable by its visible four-point white stitch logo on the back of the neck; a single horizontal stitch, visible from the garment’s exterior, fastens the MM6 label to each garment.
