J.W. Anderson opens creative Workshops in London

Published
Jan 20, 2016

No one can say J.W. Anderson lacks creativity - or energy. The designer creates six collections per year for his own brand, and also helms Loewe. Now he's adding to his busy schedule by opening the J.W.Anderson Workshops.

The Workshops, located next to the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, is meant to be a physical space to give a platform to the ideas of Anderson and his collaborators, and was inspired by the Bloomsbury Group's Omega Workshops. The space will feature constantly changing installations, including exhibitions and exclusive products, when it opens in January.

The shop space is small - just 250 sqft. - but suitably stylish, with a modular "wardrobe" working as display, fitting room and stock room. Its three walls (the front is glass) feature multi-coloured paneling and there's also a large floor-to-ceiling lightbox. Additionally, the project will focus on print, with a number of limited fanzines set to be produced to illustrate the activities taking place here.

J.W. Anderson is currently one of the most interesting designers working in Britain and recently streamed his London Collections: Men show on gay social network Grindr. Last year saw the Northern Irish designer win big at the British Fashion awards, where he won the awards for both Womenswear and Menswear Designer of the Year - the first time this has ever happened.
