InStyle UK, Look Magazine to close this month

Time Inc UK has decided to close Look Magazine and the UK edition of InStyle Magazine following the media company’s acquisition by Epiris Fund earlier this year.

Launched in 2001, InStyle UK had transitioned into a digital title in March 2017 to address the new way the audience was interacting with content. It reshuffled its business model and focused on delivering a digital experience across a variety of platforms.

However, the move was not part of Epiris Fund’s plans for the UK publisher and its acquisition in February has prompted the magazine’s closure.

“As a result of Time Inc. UK’s new ownership, the company has decided it will not be continuing with the InStyle UK licence. From 21 May, the InStyle UK website will automatically redirect to instyle.com so UK users will continue to enjoy the InStyle experience,” confirmed a spokesperson.

The announcement joins the closure of Look Magazine. The issue on sale from 29 May will be the final edition of the weekly magazine.

Justine Southall, Time Inc. UK’s managing director, fashion & beauty, said: “When Look launched in 2007, it was a publishing phenomenon and sold more than 300,000 copies a week at its peak. But Look’s audience behaves very differently today. They’re consuming media via screens and accessing numerous digital sources for fashion and celebrity content. Facing these circumstances and a continuing pressure on sales, we have taken the difficult decision to close the brand.”

Time Inc Uk will now put increased focus on its Marie Claire brand and the new WomanKind initiative, which champions women and their power to change the world.
