Feb 4 (Reuters) - Teen clothing retailer Hot Topic Inc (HOTT.O) posted January same-store sales that handily beat Wall Street estimates, and it said fourth-quarter sales rose 8 percent.

Same-store sales at the company, which sells Goth-inspired clothing, as well as music and accessories, rose 6 percent for January.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters Estimates had been expecting same-store sales, which measure sales at stores open at least a year, to rise 3.2 percent on average.

Fourth-quarter revenue for the mall-based specialty retailer was $238 million. Analysts had expected $233 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shares of the company closed down 7 cents at $8.58 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Mihir Dalal in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
