Farfetch and Byronesque reissue Vexed Generation 90s pieces

Published

Luxury e-tailer Farfetch has linked up with ‘contemporary vintage’ fashion specialist Byronesque for an 11-piece menswear re-issue collection from Vexed Generation which is launching exclusively on the site and will be available globally.

Farfetch/Byronesque/Vexed Generation

Vexed Generation, known for its offbeat, subversive, approach to fashion in the 1990s and 2000s, made a tentative comeback in a collection with Opening Ceremony and Byronesque last autumn. It’s now adding to that with Byronesque having worked closely with Vexed founders Adam Thorpe and Joe Hunter to create the capsule collection of pieces that are replicas of earlier designs from the label.

The partners said the collection “has been re-issued as a way to communicate social and environmental concerns that [they]have been discussing through their work, since 1994.”

The collection draws inspiration from the first pieces that Thorpe and Hunter designed “based on distrust of the state. These garments were a way for the designers to voice their concerns, provoke debate and provide utility to address their effects.”

That utility comes through in the Ninja Hood “that both masks the wearer’s identity from unregulated CCTV cameras and can be fitted with a filter to clean urban air,” as well as in the Vexed Parka “that parodies police riot gear.”

Giorgio Belloli, Chief Commercial & Sustainability Officer at Farfetch said the fact that the capsule “remains true to the original  designs” is likely to resonate with its global customers.

Gill Linton, CEO/Editor-in-Chief at Byronesque, added: “Farfetch is unique in that they provide an influential global platform for Vexed Generation to share their social commentary and reignite today’s vexed generation at a time when it matters most, while at the same time, supporting independent thought and creativity.”
