Dutch fashion chain HoutBrox bankrupt

Published
Apr 18, 2016

Dutch fashion chain HoutBrox and its parent company, Brova Groep, went bankrupt, as reported by local newspaper, Brabants Dagblad.

The fashion chain has two department stores, 21 physical stores, as well as an online store. HoutBrox offers womenswear, menswear and children's clothing from more than 160 brands, including: Claudia Sträter, Gaastra, Hilfiger Denim, Levi’s and Pepe Jeans

Earlier this month it was reported that fashion chain Purdey, which also belonged to Brova Groep, has been sold to O&C investments. HoutBrox has not announced any news yet regarding a takeover. However, in a statement to Brabants Dagblad, liquidator Floris Dix announced that he is hopeful that HoutBrox will start afresh and mentioned that interested candidates have already contacted him.

HouBrox was founded in 1906 in Veghel by Anton van Hout and Lisa Brox as a store in textiles and colonial goods and was called Het Anker until the 1930s. In 2006 the chain received the Royal warrant, Predicaat Hofleverancier, for its important role in the area of Veghel and its 100th anniversary. HoutBrox remained in the van Hout family until 2013.

The HoutBrox stores will remain in business until an agreement has been made. This means that, for now, 528 employees will continue to hold their jobs.
