Cubitts in shorts collab with Spoke, but with an eyewear link

Published
Jul 8, 2022

Eyewear frame specialist Cubitts has partnered with custom-fit menswear specialist Spoke to launch an exclusive range of summer shorts... with a difference. They’ve not only been designed to match the Cubitts frames but also purpose-built to clean the spectacles.

Launched this week, the shorts feature a microfibre pocket lining for lens cleaning. They also come patterned with a distinct wave print designed by Cubitts and inspired by Brazil’s famous Copacabana beach promenade curve.

Cut from a single piece of hand-shaped acetate, Cubitts has additionally created Atlantica, a bespoke frame that also takes inspiration from the beach’s promenade landscape, featuring a geometric curve as designed by modernist artist Roberto Burle Marx.

The sculptural sunglasses are “unashamedly avant-garde, purposefully unfoldable and made to be worn and displayed”, says Cubitts.

The Copacabana curve also features across Spoke’s new Friday Shorts, available exclusively this summer and priced at £80. The range is crafted in lightweight Italian stretch-cotton from the historic Italian heritage mill Tessuti di Sondrio.

The shorts are available in three colourways including dark navy, bone and sky, "ready for you to experience the summer in all its luminescent glory".

Tom Broughton founder of Cubitts, said: “As William Morris said, have nothing that you do not know to be beautiful, or believe to be useful. The humble cleaning cloth can be both. The one problem is they're very easy to misplace. But now, in this collaboration with Spoke, we've solved that problem (unless something has gone very wrong indeed). Introducing our first wearable cleaning cloth, integrated within the warm womb of the pockets themselves. Never be caught short again.”

Ben Farren, Spoke CEO, added:  "Nothing makes you feel like you are winning summer quite like an incredible pair of sunglasses. So we looked for a spectacle maker with craft and soul to partner on our signature summer shorts -- and in Cubitts we found one. Besides their wonderful eyewear, Cubitts have long curated a brilliant and eclectic line of lens cloths -- the kind of detail most others overlook. And we’ve used one of their wonderful microfibre cloths as pocketing for our new Friday Shorts, so your lenses stay smear free all summer."
