Amer Sports buys US ski manufacturer Armada

Amer Sports has once more confirmed its interest in skiing. Even if its winter sports equipment business lost 3% in revenue in the last fiscal year, down to less than €386 million, the Finnish sport group has added to its brand portfolio in the segment.

Armada Skis has been acquired by Amer Sports - Armada

Two years after selling off snowboarding brands Nikita and Bonfire, Amer Sports has now extended its skiing range by buying Armada. The US ski manufacturer, whose sales are in the region of $10 million, was acquired by Amer Sports for $4.1 million (€3.8 million), and joins a team which includes outdoor wear label Arc’Teryx and skiing and sport equipment brands Salomon and Atomic.

"This acquisition will allow us to go further on the US market, where Armada is well-established, said Michael Schineis, in charge of Amer Sports' Winter Sports Equipment division. And it is built on an existing synergy, because in the past we have collaborated with Armada via a manufacturing agreement."

Armada is based since 2014 in Park City, Utah, also home to Salomon's US subsidiary. The ski manufacturer was founded in 2002 in California by Chris O’ Connell, together with JP Auclair (who passed away in 2014), Tanner Hall, JF Cusson, Julien Regnier and Boyd Easley, all of them skiers and photographers. Armada has a strong reputation in the free-riding world and strong links with those of skateboarding and surfing.

The brand is distributed across some forty markets worldwide and, as well as skis, its range includes accessories and mountain tech wear.
