​Nest Fragrances opens first store in New York

Fragrance and selfcare company Nest Fragrances announced on Tuesday that it has opened its first ever retail location in Lower Manhattan’s Nolita neighbourhood, bringing together the brand’s complete product portfolio under one roof.

 
The 1,140-square-flagship, described by company founder Laura Slatkin as “an enchanted fragrance garden”, offers more than 215 SKUs across Nest’s three main product categories: home fragrance, fine fragrance and lifestyle bodycare. Products include eau de parfum sprays, rollerballs, liquid soap and scented candles, as well as a range of body and hand creams and lotions, lip balms, towelettes and body mists.

The store will also offer limited-edition items, specialty gift sets and a concierge delivery service in New York City.

The space was designed in collaboration with NYC-based interior design firm R. Douglas Gellenbeck Studio, while LA art studio MJ Atelier was commissioned to make a hand-painted, sculpted wall covering for the location.
 
The custom wall covering was inspired by the bath design created for the Duchess of Alba by Armand-Albert Rateau in the early 20th century and also features 3D floral elements channelling the works of 18th and 19th-century botanical artists Mrs. Delany and Ernst Haeckel. These design choices establish a certain continuity between the space and the brand’s products, as Nest’s fine fragrance and lifestyle bodycare collections were inspired by the artworks of Delany and Haeckel, respectively.
 
“The theme of our first retail store reflects and was inspired by our desire to showcase the NEST Fragrances brand in a harmonious and holistic fashion in an environment that, like our fragrances, is artful, sophisticated, and approachable,” explained Slatkin in a release, before alluding to plans to continue expanding the brand’s retail footprint in the future.

Nest Fragrances was founded in New York in 2005 and launched its first collection of 12 scented candles in 2008. The brand’s debut fine fragrance collection was released in 2013.

As well as in its new flagship, the company’s products are distributed through specialty department stores, beauty product stores, boutiques and spas, as well as via the brand’s own e-commerce platform.
