Utrecht museum to stage Jan Taminiau exhibition in 2018

Published
Oct 3, 2017

Dutch couturier Jan Taminiau will be the subject of an exhibition at Centraal Museum Utrecht. The show, named after the designer, will be an overview of his work and will be open from 21 April 2018 until 26 August.

The exhibition focuses on a number of key pieces and is designed to take the public into the world of Taminiau’s research, memories, inspiration, experiments and craftsmanship. In addition to new work from the Taminiau studio and special pieces from private collections, it will also feature previously acquired work from the museum’s own archive. Stylist Maarten Spruyt is responsible for the exhibition design.

Bart Rutten, Director of the Centraal Museum, said: “After exhibitions with Viktor & Rolf, Alexander van Slobbe and Iris van Herpen it is now time for another unique and bold collaboration with one of the Netherlands' biggest fashion talents. The exhibition is a close collaboration between the museum and Jan Taminiau; it promises to be a very surprising and personal exhibition. Taminiau takes us in his visual and exploring world. In collaboration with Maarten Spruyt we want to present a spectacular and unconventional fashion presentation.”

Jan Taminiau is a major name in the Netherlands. In 2004 he launched his label and showed at Paris Fashion Week a year later. In 2013, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands wore a Taminiau dress during the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. In 2014 he was awarded a Grand Seigneur, the highest Dutch prize for contributions to the country's fashion industry.
