Uniqlo debuts new fabric technologies at Art and Science of LifeWear event

Uniqlo this week marked the upcoming 15-year anniversary of its partnership with Toray Industries through a large-scale global exposition in New York City named The Art and Science of LifeWear.

Uniqlo celebrates its partnership with Toray Industries and debuted new fabric technologies at The Art and Science of Lifewear event in New York City - Fast Retailing

The Fast Retailing lifestyle retailer and Japan-based Toray Industries have developed new fabric technologies during its many years of partnership, including Heattech in 2003. The Art and Science of LifeWear event was the first time Uniqlo and Toray highlighted their partnership and fabric technologies outside of Japan.

"Toray's revolutionary technologies have been vital in Uniqlo's quest to create LifeWear clothing, which makes everyday life better and more comfortable for people everywhere,” said Tadashi Yanai, President & CEO of Fast Retailing. “I encourage people to attend this exhibition to see the innovations stemming from this partnership that have enabled us to deliver new value by combining unparalleled functionality and comfort with contemporary styling."

The event explored the science behind Heattech among other fabrics and allowed visitors to become fully immersed in the fabrics even at a molecular level. The companies spotlighted its fabrics like AIRism, Kando-pants, Dry-EX and Ultra Light Down and also debuted new fabrics, including a jersey fabric that gives the wearer feedback on how to adjust to inclement weather, a base layer that adjusts to the body temperature.

"Our corporate philosophy is about contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies, and products,” said Toray Industries President Akihiro Nikkaku.

“As an integrated chemical company, we engage in research and development from long-term perspectives in the conviction that materials can change our lives. I hope the exhibition of Heattech and other technological fruits of joint development with Uniqlo will give attendees a solid understanding of why this partnership can keep delivering new value in the years ahead."
