Sephora offers makeup classes for transgender customers

Published
May 23, 2018

As more brands launch strategies to bring inclusivity into beauty, Sephora has launched a new free makeup class designed specifically for transgender customers as part of its "Classes for Confidence" series.

Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community is the title of the course that will launch next month. The class joins other classes in Sephora's "Classes for Confidence" series which is in turn part of the wider Sephora Stands initiative, and is designed to meet the unique beauty needs of traditionally marginalized populations and encourage members of these communities to come in store.

On its website, Sephora says it "developed Classes for Confidence to help inspire fearlessness in those facing major life transitions."

Other Classes for Confidence target women returning to work and cancer survivors. In a video spot explaining the purpose of the program, a Sephora employee recounts a story where a participant said to her that before the class, she felt Sephora was not a place she could shop at but that her opinion had changed as a result of attending the program.

"Sephora Stands is dedicated to supporting diversity and inclusion in all of its social impact programming," said Corrie Conrad, Sephora's head of social impact and sustainability, in a statement.

Indeed, while beauty brands have encouraged vibrant looks and expressing one's individuality, Sephora seems to be going a step further to meet the specific needs of the transgender and non-binary community with its latest in-store experience.

In addition to the class which launches in June in time for Pride month, Sephora Stands' YouTube page will offer videos and tutorials designed to deliver ongoing content to the LGBTQA community.
