PARIS, June 28th (AFP) – haute-couture designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, the person behind Madonna’s famous cone-shaped bra, has produced a high-end lingerie collection for the Italian label La Perla which will be sold from November; the two companies announced in a joint statement on Monday evening.

Other than the creator’s beloved lacy corsets, the collection will include underwear “which streams the body’s curves”, extra high-waisted pants and bustiers emphasizing the neck. It also offers bras and bodices reflecting the cone-shaped chests of Gaultier’s suits created for Madonna in 1990.

The black and powder pink prevail, next to certain coral and duck-egg blue pieces.

Two limited edition pieces will be presented on July 7th at the time of Gaultier couture runway show in Paris: a satin bra as well as a “butt padded” garter belt that has been built in such a way that it rounds of the figure for an irrestible silhouette” the press release promises.

“Lingerie is part of my core beliefs and my heritage. It has been nearly 30 years since I created my first corset dress”, the designer remarks in the statement, qualifying this naturally evolved and logical collaboration”.

As far as La Perla is concerned, it is confident about the success of this “exciting focus on luxury and on very desirable femininity”.

The collection will be sold from November onwards in La Perla and Gaultier shops, as well as in a selection of department and multi-brand stores.
