The acquisition of Whitewater Shopping Centre, located in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, was been completed on Tuesday by German-based fund Deka Immobilien for €180 million.
With 320,640 sq ft of space, Whitewater is Ireland’s largest regional shopping centre and has over 70 retailers distributed over a two-level scheme. Anchored by Debenhams and Marks and Spencer, the centre also counts a large mix of fashion brands including Zara, H&M, River Island, Oasis, Monsoon, Easons and many others.
According to Irish media reports, the centre had attracted strong interest from several other European and American funds, as well as a host of private equity investors. Whitewater was previously owned by Ballymore Properties & Elm Holdings.
The centre is Deka’s second shopping mall in Ireland, after it bought Mahon Point shopping centre in Cork in 2005 for €250 million. Additionally, the German fund owns a Tommy Hilfiger store on Dublin’s Grafton Street.
