G-Star Raw Creative Director Aitor Throup steps down

Aitor Throup is stepping down as creative director of the Dutch denim brand G-Star Raw. The designer confirmed the news on his Twitter feed earlier this week.

Speaking to the U.S. media, the Brazilian-born designer said he wanted to focus on his own creative challenges.

Throup had been tapped for the label co-owned by Pharrel Williams in November, 2016, where he was put in charge of the men’s and women’s main ranges as well as Raw Research, a menswear subline. The London-based Throup relocated to Amsterdam to work for G-Star Raw, but he was already a familiar face, having collaborated with the label on multiple projects since 2013.

The brand has seen a bit of reshuffling this past six months. In November of last year, Patrick Kraaijeveld stepped down from his role as joint CEO, leaving Rob Schilder in charge.

Designer Throup’s prior projects include his own men’s brand New Object Research, based out of his London studio and collaborations with CP Company and Umbro.
