Flood-hit Islington vintage shops reopen after seven months

Some of the independent vintage shops that were severely hit by the devastating Upper Street flooding in December last year have finally been able to reopen for business.

A 36 inch wide pipe burst under Upper Street in Islington on 5 December, damaging numerous homes and businesses in the area, including the upmarket antique and vintage fashion district around Camden Passage.

The pedestrian passage off Upper Street in Islington is lined with vintage clothing shops such as Annie’s – one of London’s oldest vintage fashion stores and a favourite among celebrities, fashion editors and costume designers.

While many shops were able to reopen within a few weeks of the flooding, those worst hit have only recently been given the all-clear to return, according to the Evening Standard.

Antique dealer Kevin Page, home accessory shop In-Residence and cheesemonger Pistachio and Pickle, have all reopened in the last weeks. But vintage fashion store Dreamtime is understood to remain closed.

The vintage fashion market has been also recently hit by a fire at Camden Lock earlier this month. The London Fire Brigade was able to contain the blaze after three hours but several clothing units saw their stock destroyed or badly damaged.
