Fashion label Daily Paper and Tropenmuseum Amsterdam launch bracelet collection

The Netherlands’ Tropenmuseum (Museum of the Tropics) and Amsterdam-based fashion label Daily Paper launched a collection of bracelets. The collection is exclusively available via Tropenmuseum and Daily Paper.

The collection of handmade beaded bracelets is available in six different styles and produced by Africa Ignite, a South African organization providing employment for the residents of the KwaZulu-Natal province, the rural area around Durban.

Daily Paper, founded in 2010 by Hussein Suleiman, Jefferson Osei and Abderrahmane Trabsini, of Somali, Ghanaian, and Moroccan descent, is regularly inspired by the diverse cultures that can be found across the African continent. The African influences mixed with modern designs are characteristic of the brand. This resulted in earlier collaborations between Daily Paper and the Tropenmuseum. In the 2017 exhibition Fashion Cities Africa, an exhibition of the Tropenmuseum about fashion in four African cities, featured two Daily Paper designs.

In return, the Tropenmuseum also influences Daily Paper’s work: “The Tropenmuseum is one of the places where we gain inspiration for our new collections. You discover stories from cultures from all over the world,” the brand commented in a press release. The Tropenmuseum x Daily Paper bracelets retails at €8.95.

The Tropenmuseum is an ethnographic museum, based in Amsterdam. The museum was founded in 1864, and, until 2014 was owned and operated by Royal Tropical Institute, a foundation that sponsored the study of tropical cultures around the world.

Daily Paper started as a fashion blog in 2010, occasionally selling t-shirts and hosting pop-ups. In 2016 the brand unveiled a 250 m2 flagship store in Amsterdam West, their first physical store. Earlier the brand collaborated with Paris-based concept store Colette and launched collections with sportswear brand Puma
