In 2016, the European cosmetics market reached 77 billion euros, while the global market weighed in at 260 billion euros, according to an annual report by Cosmetics Europe.

However, while Europe remains the top global manufacturer of cosmetics, the region's growth slowed in comparison to 2015, and is now almost sluggish. Meanwhile, India, which generated 10 billion euros worth of cosmetics, experienced an annual growth rate of 17% over the last five years.

Lead by France and Germany, Europe is the most important cosmetics producer in the world - Cosmetics Europe.

In second place, the United States' cosmetic manufacturing was worth 64 billion euros, followed by 41 billion euros in China, Brazil with 24 billion euros, and Japan, where cosmetic production was valued at 22 billion euros for the year.

Back to Europe, skincare and toileries were the two major product categories, worth 18.8 billion euros and 18.5 billions euros, respectively. The next top categories were hair care, fragrance and makeup.

Europe's cosmetic market employs 2 million people, with 190,000 direct hires. It should be noted that women make up 56% of the industry professionally.
