Asos unveils womenswear Star Wars collab

Published
Dec 13, 2017

Fashion e-tail giant Asos unveiled a Star Wars: The Last Jedi women’s collection on Wednesday with the pieces being among the most clearly linked to the movie of the many fashion collabs that have been launched.

The line joins the men’s urban/streetwear offer that was launched earlier this week.

The womenswear mixes party pieces with casual jersey and is print-heavy, featuring direct movie inspiration via the high-impact prints on dresses, leggings and T-shirts that would be likely to appeal even to non-Star wars fans.

So far we’ve also seen Star wars collabs with a number of major fashion labels with the Christian Louboutin capsule collection having taken a more conceptual approach while the offer from Rag & Bone and Clarks have both been a more practical take on the theme.

Asos’s offer includes affordably priced pieces including the hero item, its chiffon galaxy-print dress, plus a handkerchief hem long-sleeved dress, and a long-sleeved tee with a Bb8 print. Star Wars features such as the Millennium Falcon and Star Destroyers also appear in the prints.

The company has tapped into current print and graphic trends to create the pattern stories for the items that start at £18 and rise to £60.

The launch programme for the movie follows Disney expanding its outlook on the product front for all of its movies as it targets a broader demographic than the kids and collectibles fans who were the obvious target market in the past.

This has meant recent movies have included a range of both higher-end and mass-market product as well as collections with a clear movie link and others where the theme is such more subtle.
